Frequently asked questions
1. Which university awards the master’s degree?
The UIMP-CSIC Master’s Degree in Quantum Technologies is coordinated by the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP) and officially involves the following universities: Universidad de La Laguna, Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Universidad de Murcia, Universidad de Valencia, and Universidad de Zaragoza. The degree is jointly awarded by all these institutions.
2. When is pre-registration open for the 2025–2026 edition?
Pre-registration is open from March 10 to May 29, 2025. You can access the UIMP admissions portal here.

3. What is the academic calendar?
The academic year runs from October 2025 to July 2026 (for the ordinary evaluation period) or September 2026 (for the extraordinary evaluation period). Click for more information.
4. Can I study part-time?
Yes, part-time study is possible. You may complete the degree over two years. In the first year, you must register for at least 30 ECTS credits (half of the full workload).
5. What is the typical class schedule?
Classes are usually held from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM (CET). Some theory modules are pre-recorded and can be followed asynchronously at your own pace.
6. Does the master's program facilitate access to PhD programs?
Yes. As an official degree, it qualifies you for PhD studies. Academic continuation is possible within CSIC or any of the participating universities, as well as other research institutions in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
7. Is the master’s program fully online?
Almost all activities and evaluations are conducted online, with two exceptions:

The master’s thesis can be completed online if the chosen topic allows, subject to agreement with the supervisor(s). If your project involves experimental work, travel may be necessary.
8. Are there predefined research lines for the Master’s Thesis, or can students propose their own?
Both options are available. We offer a list of proposed projects, but students are welcome to suggest their own. Co-supervision by external professors or industry professionals is also possible.
9. Is a B2-level English certificate mandatory for admission?
No, it is not mandatory. However, applicants who can provide proof of B2-level English proficiency will receive 0.5 points (out of 10) in the selection process. Note that all classes are in English.
Please note that the entire course is taught in English, so students are expected to have a working knowledge of the language at B2 level or higher in order to successfully follow the program.
10. Are there scholarships available for this master’s program?
While the program does not offer scholarships to cover tuition fees, there are various funding opportunities to support research internships. For example, the CSIC JAE Intro program typically opens a call in the spring.
